Gran Canaria Walking Festival starts today
800 entries and hikers from 24 countries will participate in the GCWF, to be held from today to sunday, 6 November
The V edition of the Gran Canaria Walking Festival has broken all the attendance records thanks to nearly 800 registrations from tourists of 24 different nationalities in the whole of six hiking routes.
The event will take place this week from the 2nd to the 6th of November; it will offer a complete program of six hiking routes: the “Centenario Aguas de Teror” route, the "Aborigen" route, the “La Laurisilva” route, "The Astronomical" Route, The Route of Artevigua and “La Cumbre” route.
The registration deadline was closed on Sunday due to the high demand. “We are very pleased with the repercussion of the event, at both national and international levels”, explains Verónica Alemán, manager of Gran Canaria Natural & Active, “We are fully aware of the fact that more than 200 hikers couldn’t be registered in order to ensure that logistic and quality measures as well as environmental respect were correct. It was not possible to include them”.
It is surprising the increasing number of enrolees as well as their different nationalities. Many hikers coming from 23 countries will enjoy the festival, and all of them come from Germany, Netherlands, United Kingdom, France, Norway, Finland, Poland, Denmark, Slovakia, Switzerland, China, Sweden, the United States, Austria, Canada, Uruguay, Ecuador, Venezuela, Belgium, Mexico and Spain. Based on this information we can confirm that Gran Canaria it is an ideal destination for active tourism since 67% of participants are not residents of the island. The aim of the Gran Canaria Walking Festival is to show and allow participants to enjoy the surprising nature of the island, which is provided with unique possibilities to practice this kind of activity, as it offers one of the most beautiful places in the entire world. “El pico de las Nieves, el barranco de Tirajana, el barranco de Fataga, la laguna de Valleseco o Cruz de Tejeda” are just some of the places that the race traverse.
The Gran Canaria Walking Festival is an event promoted by Gran Canaria Natural & Active’s association and sponsored by Gran Canaria Tourism Board, as well as contributors from all over Europe.
