Route Descriptions

WINE & WATER ROUTE, 5th November 2015

At 1,920 m altitude, the Pozo de los Canónigos kicks off our route, taking us around the Camino de 7 Fuentes, so called because it runs along the 7 main natural water springs spread out along the way, and from where part of the island gets its water supplies. If you are into wine, this is the route for you, as you will be able to marvel at one of the most important sites of ecological wine production on the island.

CHEESE ROUTE, 6th November 2015

This route is a real joy, as it runs partly along the famous Camino de Santiago and the trade paths which were used years ago to cross the island. The “picón” volcanic rubble shows us how the island was born from convulsive volcanic activity, while the ancient footpaths are still used by cattle, allowing us to imagine a time of busy movement of goods together with migrating animals, around century-old pine trees which still stand, revealing the tiny village of Montaña Alta, which sprang up at the end of the 18th century.

VALLEY ROUTE, 7th November 2015

The lands converge on the Ravines of Agaete, Artenara and Gáldar which still treasure a rich aboriginal and Spanish Conquistador history, along with great natural and cultural values the whole area harbours. You will cross a number of important reservoirs along the island’s interior and other areas which used to make full use of the peculiarities of its waters, including the 19th century spas, or the 20th century water mills, which are scattered around the rolling hillsides of the Ravine of Agaete.

ASTRONOMICAL NIGHT ROUTE, 7th November 2015

This route is special, it is not just an enjoyable walk around the countryside. You will also learn how to interpret just what each star is trying to tell us.

It starts off at the stunning hills around Llanos del Garañón, with a pleasant one hour walk around the Nublo rural park. Then our guides and experts will teach you basic aspects of astronomy, such as how to look out for constellations, and spot visible planets and shining stars. And so that you don’t miss out on star clusters, remains of supernovas, nebulas and double stars, at the Garañón centre you will be able to look through the powerful AstroLáser telescope.

SUMMIT OF GRAN CANARIA ROUTE, 8th November 2015

The route runs almost entirely through a pine forest located within Los Llanos de La Pez, the largest recreational expanse along the summit of Gran Canaria, bordering part of the crater at Caldera de Tejeda along the way.

The GCWF is supported by the Tourism Board of Gran Canaria, Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Promotur, among many different partners and collaborators from all over Europe and who are involved in this amazing experience, which once again will be unforgettable.
